All About Barry
I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma but only spent the first year of my life there. Since then I have lived in New York. I started my career in the late 1970s, as an Accountant, working mostly in the insurance industry. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But I learned a lot about business, what it takes to complete projects and had the opportunity to work with all different types of people. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.
By the mid 1990s, I realized I needed to do more with my life than quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements. My career had plateaued, so yes, I know that feeling. I decided I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life. I had always enjoyed working with Executive Recruiters and admired the work that they did. The concept of finding someone their dream job and finding an organization an important employee fascinated me. I went back to school. It took a while, but in October 1997, I met Peter Bell and started working at Goldman+Bell, and then after that its sister company, The Goldman Group, for the next five years. I started to become a confident and (I hope) respected Public Relations Recruiter.
In December 2003, Peter Bell opened an office for Peter Bell & Associates, LLC. Finally my perfect job! We worked together, for 12+ years; all happy years! I worked on public relations, communications, investor relations, marketing and social media communications searches at the mid- to senior level, mostly in the New York metropolitan area. We wanted it to last forever. But in April 2016 Peter Bell decided to retire. After considering all my options, I decided to open BAP EXECUTIVE SEARCH LLC.
Personally, in the 1980s I met my wife Carla. She is originally from The Netherlands and I have been blessed to be married to her since 1988. Carla’s one non-negotiable condition for marrying me was that we had to have a dog. For my social media friends you are familiar with how much I loved Duffy the Dog (1994-2012) and now love Pepper (2012-forever). The BAP in my company’s name stands for Barry Alan Piatoff and it can also stand for Barry and Pepper.
In addition to spending time with Carla and Pepper, my interests include travel*, attending concerts**, pop culture, current affairs, baseball, social media, Eurovision Song Contest and blogging.
I have a B.B.A in Accounting from Bernard M. Baruch College and studied Marketing and Human Resources at New York University’s School of Continuing Education.
